Heroes Are My Weakness by Susan Elizabeth Phillips: Review & Giveaway!!
I wasn't at all sure about this book, even though my friends raved about it. They gave me all sorts of great reasons why I should read the book, but one fact kept getting in the way: ventriloquists' dummies. I've had issues with those since a very memorable episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I couldn't imagine how Susan Elizabeth Phillips could put what, to me, was the highlight of creepiness into a contemporary romance. When the opportunity to review the novel came, I gave in to fate and signed up.
As frequently happens, my friends were right. Annie, our heroine, is a spunky, courageous, warmhearted ventriloquist with a distinctly impish streak. She has a history with our hero, Theo Harp, and it's not a pleasant one - he was her first love and her first heartbreak. But Annie is broke, recovering from pneumonia, and has nowhere to live except the isolated cottage on Peregrine Island off the coast of Maine. For his part, Annie is the last person Theo wants to see. She stirs his blood and his memories, making him relive the best and worst times of his life. As Annie and Theo are thrown together again and again their old chemistry heats up, but can Annie trust the man who once tried to kill her?
